William Smith

William Eugene (Bill) Smith, 89, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2021 in Denton, TX. 

Bill was born March 13, 1932 in Thalia, TX to Walter and Marie (Oakley) Smith.

Bill married the love of his life Sue Lavern Weatherford on March 15, 1952. He served his country in the United States Army in 1954 stationed in Boston, MA.  He was the owner/operator of Smith Well Service, which he ran alongside his wife Sue. He has been a member of the Scottish Rite Masons for 50 years. He is a morning member of the local donut shop, where local and world problems are discussed and solved daily. He attended the First United Methodist Church in Alvord, TX. 

Bill and Sue loved each other, and they loved to travel, dance, farm, ranch and enjoyed friends and family. They worked hard and lived life to the fullest. Bill’s humor always came alive with his stories, which he often acted out. He loved to make people laugh, his laugh was contagious to those around him, and everyone was aware of his special presence. 

He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Sue Smith, his parents Walter and Marie Smith, his brother Weldon Smith, his sisters Nina Norvell and Betty Jane Wise. 

Bill is survived by his sister Patsy Lynch of Decatur, his daughters, Kim McElhaney and husband Roy Stewart of Bridgeport, Tammy Murphy and husband Ritchard of Cottondale, Lorie Huslig and husband Steve of Denton. He is also survived by his grandchildren Misty Morrow and husband Trent, Brandie Sparks and partner Sterling Tincher, Stacie Anderson and husband Kyle, Katie Smith and husband Josh, Will Huslig and wife Marlene and 9 beautiful great-grandchildren, Bryson and Blake Morrow, Logan and Kennedie Sparks, Hendrix, Harper and Haddie Smith and Lane and Luke Anderson.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association in Bill’s honor. 

Due to Covid concerns a private immediate family only graveside service will be held at Hopewell Cemetery in Stoneburg, TX on September 1, 2021 officiated by Trent Morrow. 

Pallbearers are Will Huslig, Trent Morrow, Josh Smith, Kyle Anderson, Bryson Morrow, Logan Sparks, Hendrix Smith and Blake Morrow.
