—Philippians 4:4

With sadness, but with confidence in God’s promises, our family announces the passing of Ruby Willadene Mosley on October 17, 2026.

Willadene lived a life grounded in Christian faith, family, kindness, and service. Through her church, her work in Wise County, and her personal ministry of sending cards to those who needed encouragement, she quietly reminded others that they were remembered and loved.

We mourn her passing, celebrate her life, and give thanks for the lasting influence she leaves with her family and community.

Ruby Willadene Mosley, a lifelong resident of Decatur, Texas, was born on October 19, 1936, in Decatur to Loyd F. Scaff and Ruby L. Scaff.

Willadene graduated from Decatur High School and devoted much of her working life to serving the people of Wise County. She began working in the Wise County Clerk’s Office in the late 1950s under County Clerk L. C. Slimp. Before returning to the clerk’s office, she worked at the Wise County Extension Office for John South.

Willadene began her second period of service with the County Clerk’s Office in the late 1970s, working for LaVerne Forman and Sherry Lemon until her retirement. During her distinguished career as deputy county clerk, she is estimated to have signed more than 4,700 marriage licenses—quietly connecting her with thousands of couples and families throughout Wise County. Her many years of faithful public service became an important part of her legacy in the community she called home.

A woman of Christian faith, Willadene was a Baptist and a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Decatur. Her special ministry was sending Hallmark cards to friends, relatives, church members, and homebound residents throughout the Decatur community.

Those fortunate enough to receive one of her cards may not have known how much thought went into selecting it. Each month, Willadene spent as many as three hours carefully reading cards for everyone on that month’s list. She wanted each person to receive a card she personally chose for them. Through this quiet, faithful ministry, she offered encouragement, celebrated important occasions, remembered those who might otherwise feel forgotten, and reminded many people they were loved.

Willadene and Harold Mosley eloped on April 6, 1958. Although their families had envisioned a traditional June wedding, Willadene and Harold had their own plans. They held a wedding reception that June, which brought great happiness to both Willadene’s mother and her new mother-in-law. Their elopement and later reception became a cherished part of the couple’s family story.

Willadene is survived by her devoted husband, Harold Mosley; her son, Mark Mosley, and his wife, Jean Carol Mosley; her granddaughters, Claire Mosley and Meredith Swart; Meredith’s husband, Matthew “Matt” Swart; and her sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Don Ogle. She also leaves behind beloved brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews, all of whom held a special place in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Loyd F. Scaff and Ruby L. Scaff, and her brothers, Loyd Ray Scaff and James Kenneth Scaff.

Willadene’s Christian hope is beautifully expressed in Philippians 4:4–7, the Scripture she selected to represent her faith.

Please keep Harold and the Mosley family in your prayers as we remember and celebrate Willadene’s life.
