A celebration of life for Wayne Taylor, 65, of Bridgeport, Texas, will be 6-8 pm Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport. He left this earth to enter the gates of Heaven on March 14, 2023, at home with his wife and beloved pets, Patches and Sissy, by his side.

The seventh of ten children, Wayne was born in Kaufman, Texas, on September 3, 1957, to John Henry and Bessie Mae Kennedy Taylor. He was baptized at a young age and lived with the faith that one day, the Lord would call him home when He was ready.

Wayne grew up in Camden, Alabama, where he developed his love for fishing and spent many summers on the river in the houseboat his father built. Later, he moved to Montgomery, Alabama, and attended Sidney Lanier High School. Wayne left school and joined the United States Army and was soon stationed at Fort Hood Army Base near Killeen, Texas. There, he honed his mechanical skills while working on aircraft engines. Upon his discharge from the military, Wayne moved to the Bridgeport area, where he worked alongside his oldest brother, picking up yet another skill, that of welding. He met the love of his life, his sweetheart Dorothy Kay Taylor. They were married December 5, 1992. With this union, they gained a beautiful, blue-eyed blonde girl, Brittany Michelle. Together, they spent a large amount of their time on the lake fishing.

Wayne started working for Smith Oilfield Services where he became very close friends with the owner, Rick Smith. They soon became more like family than friends.

Wayne had to leave the workforce due to many back surgeries and later was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis).

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Dorothy K. Taylor of Bridgeport, Texas; daughter Brittany Michelle and husband Brennan Poer; uncle A.E. Crawford of Moundville, Alabama; brothers JC Taylor and wife Barbara of Brandon, Mississippi and Rick Taylor of Saucier, Mississippi; sisters Laura Diane Johnson of Clanton, Alabama, Mary Beth Mercer and husband Larry of Gonzales, Texas, Rebecca Condel and husband Alvin of Gonzales, Texas, Jane Stephens and husband Dale of Heflin, Alabama, and Carla Taylor of Heflin, Alabama; grandchildren Cayden Wayne Taylor, Bradley Newberry, and Maci Jo Poer of San Angelo, Texas; sister-in-law Edna Taylor of Chico, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends David Thompson of Wetumpkna, Alabama, his caregiver Sara, and Rick Smith (brother-at-heart) of Bridgeport, Texas.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents; brother John Franklin Taylor; sister Christine Taylor Herbert Tripp; and Nephew Jason Clark Stewart.
