Tommy Bridges

Graveside Services for Tommy Bridges, 75, of Bridgeport, Texas, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2026, at Paradise Cemetery. 

Tommy Phil Bridges passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family, June 23, 2026.

Tom was born September 21, 1950, to T. W. and Doris (Gardner) Bridges in Bridgeport. He grew up in Paradise and graduated in 1969 from Paradise High School. He attended Weatherford College and North Texas State University. He worked on a farm, in the oil and gas industry, and retired from Peterbilt Motors in 2017 after 27 years.

In December 1974, he became a father to Addie Denice. While working for Mitchell Energy, he met Lizann Stockdale, and they married October 29, 1982, and with Addie became a family. They added two more girls to the family, Jessica Paige in 1984 and Britni Lauren in 1986. They moved from Paradise to Bridgeport in 1998 where he lived until his death.

Tom had a love for everything outdoors including hunting and fishing but mostly gardening and working in his yard. He loved growing vegetables and especially enjoyed growing beautiful plants and flowers. One of his most proud moments was receiving Yard of the Month for Wise County.

He enjoyed traveling and was able to visit places he had dreamed of, from the Caribbean to Europe, New Zealand and bucket list places Australia, Montana, and Alaska. As much as he enjoyed his travels, he mostly loved being at home bird watching in his backyard sitting in his rocking chair, binoculars in hand with his dogs Lucy and Ethel in his lap.

A man of few words, when he said something funny, it instantly became memorable and would become a family inside joke. He loved telling stories even if he had told them over and over. He would start to laugh before he could finish the story. Those who knew him were blessed to experience a man of quiet strength, deep kindness, and endless patience, a devoted presence who showed up fully for the people he loved. He loved unconditionally and wholeheartedly, and could not have been a more devoted husband, father, son, brother, son-in-law, brother-in-law, or friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Barbara Bellah and husband Freddie, brother-in-law Randy Bass, and niece Stacey Bellah. 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 43 years, daughter Addie Bridges and partner Mike Brady of Aurora, daughter Jessica Bridges and partner Bryan Blalock of Portland, Oregon, and Britni Jacobsen-Bridges and wife Lauren of Denton, and sister Connie Bass of Bridgeport. He also leaves 3 grandchildren – Ian and Breanna Powers of Pennsylvania and Khloe Brady of Aurora, 3 great-grandchildren Anita, Jude and Marlow, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
