Sandra Bland

Sandra Lee Bland, 81, of Fort Worth, Texas, will be laid to rest in a peaceful private cemetery in Alvord, Texas. Her family will hold a graveside celebration of a life well lived at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2024. Sandra was called home on April 23, 2024.

Born as Sandra Cook on July 16, 1942, in Las Vegas, New Mexico, she regarded many places as home, but made her way to Texas as quickly as she could and never left. Sandra was a tapestry of many wonderful things – a Christian, sister, wife, aunt, devoted mother, loving Granny and great-grandmother, voracious reader, baseball fan, skilled seamstress, and amazing cook. She tirelessly worked multiple jobs at a time as a younger woman to help provide for her beloved daughters. She was a prayer warrior whose intercession directly touched many lives. She lived her life for faith and family. She is already deeply missed but is now celebrating in the place she longed to be.

She is survived by her four daughters Laura Clark, Connie Gardner, Karen Palmer, and Julie Horner, and their families, including nine grandchildren Cori Bland, Mathew, Kara, and Makalah Gardner, Ellie and Graham Palmer, and Zachary, Coleton, and Jonathan Horner; seven great-grandchildren Tyler and Dakota Cheshire, Wrenly and Nora Lujan, Lorelei and Jenevieve Ratliff, and Peter Horner.

Sandra is preceded in death by her parents Porter and Ruth Cook; husband Stanley Bland; and brothers Jim and Jack Cook.
