Rosie Lee Corbell

Graveside services for Rosie Lee Corbell, 103, of  Decatur, Texas will be 11:30 am, Monday, October 7, 2019 at Oaklawn Cemetery in Decatur, officiated by Chaplain Phillip Weitner. Visitation will be at 10:00 am, Monday at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Mrs. Corbell passed away Friday, October 4 in Decatur.

Rosie Lee was one of eight children, born August 10, 1916 in Sunshine, Texas, close to Corpus Christi in Nueces County. Her parents were W.F. and Beulah (Long) Redding.

She married Olen C. Corbell in Nueces County in 1936 and the couple produced three sons. He wooed her and won her hand in marriage by giving her a box of Valentine’s candy. It was many years before he confessed that he’d gotten the candy for free.

She worked for many years as a beauty operator in Texas, and much of the time she volunteered her time and talent for free.

She saw many changes over her long life, such as traveling by wagon, to witnessing the astronauts’ landing on the moon, and watching the history of our country through 18 US presidents.

Rosie Lee was a longtime, faithful member of the Church of Christ. Because of her faithfulness over the years to spread the Gospel, many Bibles were delivered all over the world, highlighting God’s plan of salvation in each one.

She is survived by sons Norman Corbell of Odessa, Texas, Ronnie Corbell and wife Peggy of Decatur, and Daryl Bruce Corbell and wife Pam of Hewitt, Texas; stepson Don Corbell and wife Julia of Shingle Springs, California; daughter-in-law Grace Corbell of Decatur; grandchildren Shannon, Karen, Celena, Kelly, Galen, Natalie, Keith, and Debbie; many great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild Elijah, and numerous other family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Olen, stepson Gale, and seven siblings.
