Funeral services for Ronnie Hughes, 57, of Decatur, Texas, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 29, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Decatur, with a burial to follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Decatur. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday March 28, 2024, at the church. Dr. David Lowrie and Phillip Askey will officiate.
Pallbearers will include Nick Smith, Mikey Garcia, Kenneth Lue, Mike Moore, Toney Kemp, Johnny Ward, Mike Crader, and Mike Greene; honorary pallbearers Glenn Walker, Jerry Story, David Sims, and Scott Cates.
Ronnie, a beloved son, husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, was born on March 1, 1967, to Bill and Jackie Hughes in Groton, Connecticut, and peacefully went to be with our Lord on March 26, 2024, in Decatur, Texas. He married Frances (Cates) Hughes June 3, 2000, and was happily married for 23 years.
Ronnie will always be remembered for his commitment to his work at Karl Klement in Decatur, where he worked for over 33 years as a painter. His dedication to his craft and friendly demeanor left a lasting impact on those around him.
Outside of work, Ronnie found joy in various hobbies such as drag racing, building projects, working with wood, and skiing. His adventurous spirit and love for creating things with his hands were admirable qualities that resonated with all who knew him.
Those left to cherish Ronnie’s memory are his wife, Frances Hughes; son Cody Lee Hughes; parents Dr. Bill and Jackie Hughes; brother Bobby Hughes and wife, KaSondra; nieces Chelsea Garcia and husband, Mikey, Courtney Lue and husband, Kenneth, Christina Smith and husband, Nick, and Halie Moore; great-nieces Cambria Garcia, Stella and Colette Lue; great-nephew Blaze Garcia; and a host of special friends.
Ronnie is preceded in death by his grandparents J.W. and Edna Pinkerton and grandmother Bertha Hughes.
