Robert H. Derrington

Visitation for Robert “Bobby” H. Derrington, 82, of Bridgeport, Texas, will be held from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Hudson and Torres Funeral Home in Bridgeport. A private family burial will follow at Cottonwood Cemetery in Bryson, Texas.

Robert “Bobby” H. Derrington, born in Denton, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2026, in Weatherford, Texas. His life was marked by service, hard work, and a deep love for the people and places he called home. Before making his way to North Texas, he proudly served in the United States Air Force at Laughlin Air Force Base near Del Rio, Texas.

Bobby loved being outdoors and working with his hands, especially when it involved anything mechanical. A talented master mechanic and welder, he carried a lifelong dream of owning his own truck and becoming an owner-operator.

His love of trucking took him many places over the years. He hauled rock and brick locally and spent countless miles as an over-the-road truck driver. Among his fellow truckers, he was known simply as “Cottonmouth,” a CB handle that became synonymous with his friendly voice on the radio.

In retirement, Bobby stayed busy with the projects he enjoyed most, including working on tractors, pickups, and other vehicles. He and his beloved wife of many years, Janice, treasured time with their sons and families, especially their grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

After Janice’s passing in May 2019, Bobby remained closely connected to his family. He faithfully attended his grandchildren’s sporting events, shared family dinners, and cherished every opportunity to be with those he loved.

Bobby loved watching classic Westerns and could name almost any movie after seeing just a scene or two. He was also an avid fan of automotive reality shows, especially Fast N’ Loud, and enjoyed watching old, worn-out vehicles transformed through complete restorations. He admired the craftsmanship, patience, and dedication required to bring classic cars back to life.

Bobby was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janice Derrington; his brothers-in-law, Walter “Tom” Bourbon Jr. and James Melton Jones Jr.; his sister-in-law, Jenny L. Jones; and his niece, Barbara Louise Barham.

Those left to cherish Bobby’s memory include his sons, David Derrington and wife Melody of Haslet, Texas, and Daniel Derrington and wife Julie of Weatherford, Texas; his grandchildren, Drew Edens and husband Clint, Brittany Foster and husband Leddy, Isabella Derrington, Katherine Derrington, and Dawson Derrington; and his great-granddaughter, Winnie Foster.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hilltop Park Rehabilitation and Care Center and Beyond Faith Hospice – Weatherford for the compassionate care, kindness, and support they provided Bobby throughout his battle with dementia.

Bobby is now reunited with his loving wife, Janice, whom he missed dearly and loved beyond measure.
