Richard Nichols

Richard (Bill) Nichols 81, of Slidell, Louisiana, previously of Bridgeport, Texas, left the bounds of earth and winged his way through the heavens to the waiting arms of his Lord and Savior at 3:35 PM on October 17, 2013. After a battle with cancer, he was awarded his trip home. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 26, 2013, in the Chapel at Jones Family Funeral Home. The burial will be private. Bill was born May 21, 1932 to E. E. Nichols and his wife Lottie Manilla. He was one of eleven children: four brothers Jack, Bert, John, and Doug; and six sisters Eddie, Freddie, Winda, Wanda, Katherine, and Melba. He grew up on farms in east and west Texas. After graduating high school, Bill spent four years serving his country in the United States Coast Guard. He spent over thirty years hauling aggregate from the Bridgeport area throughout North Texas. In 2000, he parked his truck for good and enjoyed his retirement. Bill is survived by his loving wife Sharon; sons Jay Strawn and wife Kristen of San Antonio, Texas, and Blaine Strawn and wife Mimi of Carriere, Mississippi; three grandchildren (the twinkle of his eye) Ally, Kenny Wade, and Savannah; brothers Doug and his wife Lulabell of Josephine, Texas, and John Nichols; sisters Winda Bounds and husband George of Mexia, Texas, Katherine Rist and husband Huey of East Texas, and Wanda Beaver of Georgetown, Texas; and a host of nieces and nephews. “Mr. Nichols,” as he was known to all, will be sorely missed.
