Onita M. Smith

Funeral service for Onita Manning Smith, 87, of Chico, Texas will be at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport, Texas, officiated by Pastor Mike McInerney. Burial will follow at Cumby Cemetery in Chico. Pallbearers are Jason Smith, Scott Rawlings, Charlie Smith, Will Robinson, Walt Mowery, and Jimmy Smith. Visitation will be held at 1:00 pm, one hour prior to the service.  She went home to be with our Lord on Friday, September 6, 2019 in Decatur, Texas.

Nita was born March 5, 1932 to Murriell Thomas and Opal Evon (Motley) Manning in Chico. She was united in marriage to Elton Kenneth Smith on June 6, 1949.

Nita was a member of Crafton Baptist Church. She worked many years in nursing homes as a certified nursing assistant and later retired from Chico ISD as a cafeteria manager.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Kenneth; sisters Nelda Adams and Verba Manning; and brothers Maurice Manning and Jess Melton.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter Jocelyn Rawlings and husband Mike of Boyd, Texas; sons Jamey Smith and wife Robbie of Cottondale, Texas, and Joey Smith of Chico; grandchildren Jonna Rawlings, Scott Rawlings, Jason Smith, Jada Ayala, and Charles Smith; great-grandchildren Taylor Rawlings, and Wiley, Elton, and Ralph Ayala; great-great-grandchild Easton Rawlings; brother-in-law Darwin Smith; sister-in-law Frances Garrison and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
