MJ Merritt passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on June 13, 2017 in Decatur, Texas. She was 85 years old. She was born Jane Merrella on January 9, 1932, in Syracuse, New York to Lester Kenneth and Lena Agatha (Jalbert) Merritt. MJ worked for Braniff Airlines as a reservation agent, as well as an over-the-road truck driver, and many other endeavors during her life. Her hobbies included crocheting afghans, collecting teddy bears, watching old movies, loving her canine companion, Mouse, and everything purple. She had a feisty spirit that was sometimes bigger than she was, and she will be missed dearly by those that loved her.
MJ is survived by her five daughters: Ann and Mike Sanders of Von Ormy, Texas; grandchildren, Ricky and Melodyin Riojas of Bulverde, Texas; Cathy Edward of Decatur, Texas; grandchildren, Ron and Rachel Hurst of Decatur, Texas, and, Robert and Maylina Edwards of Wellington, Colorado,and Jennifer Edwards of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Barbara and Jack Lindsey of Von Ormy, Texas; grandchildren, Shari and Rick Temple of Eddy, Texas, and Tammy Stubbs of Bandera, Texas; Denise and Mario Cortez of Ozark, Missouri; grandchildren Angela and Greg of Shellville, Georgia; Therisa and Jerry Duckworth of Corpus Christi, Texas; grandchildren, Alicia and Lance Ziebell of Floresville, Texas, and Danny and Mindi Duckworth of San Marcos, Texas; 15 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
MJ was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Kenneth William Merritt of New York, and her son, Edward John Nowicki II.
