A Funeral Mass for Michael Rix, 52, of Bridgeport, Texas, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2026, at St. John the Baptizer Catholic Church in Bridgeport.

On Saturday, August 1, 2026, Michael DeWayne Rix passed away at his home in Bridgeport, Texas, with his beloved wife, Amanda, by his side, after a courageous battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Michael was born in Athens, Greece, to his mother, Karen Louise Rix, and her Navy husband, Ronald Thomas Rix. After Ronald retired, Michael was raised primarily in Virginia Beach.

Following high school, Michael carried on his family’s tradition of military service by joining the Marine Corps, where he served as a videographer. After leaving the Corps, he married his former wife, Misty. He later served in the Army and completed tours in Afghanistan before being medically retired from service.

Michael and Misty returned to Azle, Texas, where they raised their son, Tristan Rix, and their daughter, Rina Rix.

Michael found joy in creativity through music, sketching, and painting. He was a lifelong singer, played trombone in the school band, and learned guitar through a program at the Veterans Administration. He loved exploring different instruments, singing karaoke with friends, and writing songs.

Over the years, Michael was part of several bands, beginning in high school and most recently with Gypsy Stranger. His artistic talents also extended to visual art: he designed his sister’s wedding invitation, created several tattoo designs, and continued to draw and paint throughout his life.

He was also an avid gamer and loved sharing that hobby with his children. Michael was active in church and found deep meaning and satisfaction in helping others.

After his marriage to Misty ended, Michael moved to Bridgeport and continued serving his community in many meaningful ways. He volunteered for many years at A Secret Place, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, shared his ministry in the local prison, taught other veterans to play guitar, and brought music to seniors at community centers and nursing homes.

Michael found love again with his wife, Amanda. During their seven years together, they built a beautiful life and home, supporting one another through both joyful and difficult seasons.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Karen and Ronald; his biological father, Charles Albridge; his former wife, Misty; and his brothers, Raymond Rix and Scott Rix.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Amanda; his son, Tristan, and Tristan’s wife, Taytum; his daughter, Rina; his stepchildren, Gabrielle Tillery and her husband, Mason, Jillian Tillery and her fiancé, Nate, Madilyn Force and her fiancé, Dylan, Brady Lorden, and Shawn Lorden; seven grandchildren; his brother, George Rix, and George’s wife, Shona; his sister, Heather Novak, and her husband, Jimmy; Angela Rix, widow of Raymond; 12 nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

Michael touched the lives of many people and will be deeply missed.
