Funeral services for Merlin E. Remmele, 92, of Paradise, will be Tuesday, June 14, at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Cottondale with burial to follow at Cottondale Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, June 13, from 6-8 pm at Hudson and Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport.   He passed away peacefully on June 10, 2022, in Bridgeport, surrounded by family.

 

Merlin was born September 10, 1929 in Buffalo, OK to Jacob Benjamin Remmele and Fannie Ethel Bridges Remmele.  His parents were homesteaders in the panhandle of Oklahoma. During the Dust Bowl, at about the age of 8, his family moved to Paradise.  He graduated from Paradise High School.  He married Betty Jewell Killough in 1951 and they lived happily together until her death in 2012.  Merlin proudly served the Army at Fort Sam Houston base hospital located in San Antonio, during the Korean War.  Together he and Betty raised four sons and one daughter. He was a dairyman in Paradise for 13 years. Merlin worked at the Boyd Feed Store for several years and had his own fertilizer business. He served on the Paradise School Board for several terms.  He served on the Wise County Soil Conservation Board for over 30 years.  He served on the Tax Appraisal Board for many years. He was a retired farmer and rancher. After retirement, he loved riding his ATV with Dixie, his beloved dog.  Merlin was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cottondale, serving as deacon for 60 plus years.  He was the building supervisor for the present church building.  Merlin accepted the Lord as his savior in 1956 and was an amazing man of God.   He was the best father and grandfather, a true family man.      

 

 

He is survived by his sons, Harold Remmele and wife Renea, Ben Remmele, Gene Remmele and wife Lisa; daughter, Debbie Leatherman and husband Danny, all of Paradise; grandchildren, Holly Remmele Wilson and husband Clint of Creede, Colorado, Misty Remmele Barnett and husband Brad of Lubbock, Keila Remmele Strader and husband Elliot of Frisco, Jacob Baber and wife Ashley of Sterling, Virginia, Katelyn Baber Erickson and husband Philip of Paradise, Elisabeth Remmele Coplan and husband Radley of Azle, Lucas Remmele of Paradise, Ellen Remmele DeBoer and husband Tyler of Decatur, Stahlman Remmele of Paradise, Rachel Remmele Foster and husband Seth of Bridgeport, Ian Remmele of Paradise; great-grandchildren, Gracie, Brady, Britton and Carter Barnett, Savannah and Reese Wilson, Corlie, Alice, Henry and Harriet Strader, Jaxon, Caleb, Philip and Kade Erickson, Everett and Holden Baber, Levi Coplan, and Hadley Remmele; and a host of other family and friends.

 

Merlin is preceded in death by his parents; wife Betty; son Jimmy; brothers El Reno Remmele and Elbert Remmele; and sister Volney Prophet.
