Mercy was born September 1, 1939 in Bronte, Texas to Pilar L. Garcia and Santos (Minjarez) Garcia. She married Raymond Santivanez Cortez, Sr. on April 4, 1961.

Mercy was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to no end. She had a way of making each of them feel as if they were the only one in her life.

If anyone knew her they knew she was a woman of strength, courage, wisdom, resilience, never afraid to speak her mind, a strong woman of faith, with a great sense of humor, and just enjoyed life.

She enjoyed cooking and fishing, and she had a love for plants. Her entertainment was watching her Spanish soap operas, and arguing with ‘Alexa’.

She was loved by so many that she will continue to live in each and every one that knew her. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

She was a blessing. Her memory a treasure, she is loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are children Michelle Denney and husband Rick of Chico, Texas, Kody Vera of Bridgeport, Delores Vega of Lubbock, Texas, Sylvia Chavez of Plainview, Texas, Debbie Tuley and husband Carl of Decatur, Texas, Linda Matthews of Decatur, Michael Cortez and wife Nanette of Fort Worth, Mark Cortez and wife Tina of Bridgeport, Tommy Cortez of Bridgeport, Raymond Cortez Jr., of Ocala, Florida, Larry C. Sellers of San Antonio, Texas, and Jerry C. Sellers and wife Brenda of Little Rock, Arkansas; siblings Alex Garcia, Joy Garcia, Lily Cantu, Mollie Garcia, Ervey Garcia, Susie Rodriguez, Arturo Gloria, Thomas Gloria, and Simon Soto; 27 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, and numerous other family.

She was preceded in death by her parents Pilar and Santos Garcia, husband Raymond S. Cortez, Sr. and siblings Eddie Garcia, Louisa Pena, Willie Ramirez, Mary Reyes, Margarita Guerro, and Danny Gloria.

Sleep with the angels, Mom.
