Margaret "Marge" Richey

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John’s Catholic Church in Bridgeport, Texas, at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, to honor the life of Marge.

Margaret Joanne Loudner Richey, aged 89, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2024, in Decatur, Texas. She was born on January 23, 1935, in Gaylord, Kansas, to Glenwood and Ethel Loudner. The family moved to Denver when Marge was a young girl, and she graduated from West High School in 1953. At a young age, Marge became interested in flying and earned her pilot’s license in 1960. Later that year, she met Leonard Richey on a blind date that a mutual friend organized. The couple married three years later in 1963. Marge and Leonard went on to have three beautiful children, two boys and a girl. They chose to raise their family in Ranger, Texas, where Marge was a very active member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church and the Ranger High School Band Boosters. She loved helping at the church, teaching CCD, hosting covered dish dinners, chaperoning band trips and working in the concession stand at football games. She kept active at home, raising goats, chickens, guineas and quail. After their children graduated from high school, Marge and Leonard moved to Decatur, Texas, where they joined several flying clubs and enjoyed their lives as empty nesters. Marge spent her time drawing, painting and writing children’s books, which her grandchildren loved. They also loved her famous carrot Jell-O.  She loved nature, night skies, science fiction and most of all, mowing.

Marge is survived by her husband of 60 years, Leonard; son John (Janice); daughter Jayne (Elliott); grandchildren Jacob, Jeremy, Lucas, Lindsey and Elliott Jr; a younger sister, Marilyn (Tom) Blanford; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her son Jay; parents Ethel and Glen; brother Dobb; and sisters Bernelda and Genevieve.
