Margaret McDaniel

Margaret “PeeWee” Preskitt Brown McDaniel, 90, of Bridgeport, Texas passed away Thursday, April 14, 2016 in Denton after a brief illness. Funeral services are at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Bible Baptist Church in Bridgeport. Burial will be in East Bridgeport Cemetery. Dr. Dale Webster will officiate. Pallbearers are Jeremy Hardy, Jody Thiebaud, Bob Waters, Ken Briere, Colton Burris, and Ken Brinson. Visitation is from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Friday, April 15, 2016 at Jones Family Funeral Home. PeeWee was born on October 10, 1925 in Bridgeport to Velma Katherine (Lusk) and Wiley Lloyd Preskitt, the fourth of seven children. Her family is directly descended to two of Wise County’s earliest pioneer families. She was educated at schools in Bridgeport. In her earliest years she was called “Maggie,” but somewhere during this time she was nicknamed “PeeWee,” which stuck and became the name she actually grew to prefer. In her earlier years, PeeWee was a homemaker. In 1968 she began working at the Dairy Queen when it first opened in Bridgeport. She quickly became its manager and loved serving the public with good food. PeeWee was a remarkable business manager and highly enjoyed every facet of operating the business. In 1984 she left to work in food service with the Bridgeport public schools until the time of her retirement. During these years, PeeWee developed many caring friendships and business relationships which have lasted throughout the years. Once retired, it wasn’t too long before PeeWee, with help from Lisa, began her second career as a day care provider to many children. She adored each and every one of the children who came into her care over the years. She felt as if she were their surrogate grandmother and always felt she was a member of these families. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church. PeeWee is survived by her sons Johnny F. Ashcraft and wife Junie of Mansfield, Texas, Kenneth R. Ashcraft of Bridgeport, and Steven L. Brown of Runaway Bay, Texas; daughters Lisa Brown of Bridgeport and Sherlyn Curtis and husband Jack Curtis of Corsicana, Texas; sister Catherine Campa and husband Raymond of Irving, Texas; grandchildren Troy Ashcraft of Edinburg, Texas, Andrea Rogers of Hensley, Arkansas, Jack Curtis and wife Melissa of Boerne, Texas, Jason Curtis and wife Amanda of Midlothian, Texas, and Kasandra Brown of Hurst, Texas; great-grandchildren Samantha Robey, Gage Rogers, Conner Curtis, Kelsey Curtis, and Callie Curtis; and great-great-grandchildren Raylee and Cheyenne. She is preceded in death by husband Sherman L. Brown in 1983 and husband Hubert McDaniel in 1993; her parents; sisters Echo Brooks, Maxine Greer, and Blanche Marie Brown; brothers Wiley Lloyd Preskitt, Jr. and Bobbie E. Preskitt; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Bible Baptist Church or any favorite children’s charity.
