Lovelace “Cajun” James Himel, born on April 4, 1956, in Lafayette, Louisiana, to Bernard and Genevie (Mire) Himel, and peacefully passed away on October 29, 2025, in Chico, Texas, surrounded by his family. He was a cherished member of The Shepard House in Chico, Texas.

Cajun married the love of his life, Terri Lorraine (Cohron) Himel, on June 18, 1978, in Lafayette, Louisiana. Their marriage of 47 years was a testament to their dedication to each other and the joys they shared together.

Cajun loved watching football, enjoying the excitement and time with friends and family. Above all, he cherished spending time with the people he loved, creating lasting memories that will be treasured by those who were fortunate enough to be in his life.

Cajun is preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Genevie Himel; brothers, Joseph Himel, Sr. and Dale Michael Himel; sisters, Theresa Folds, Linda Wingate, Gail Landry, Mona Gillory, Bonnie Puckett, and Connie Himel; and grandparents, Honora Sr. and Martha (LeBlanc) Himel and Joseph Milton and Theresa (Granger) Mire.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Terri Himel; sons, Joshua James Himel of Semmes, Alabama, Nicholas Dean Himel of Semmes, Alabama, and Gabriel Bernard Smith of Chico, Texas; brothers, Alfred Himel of Jennings, Louisiana and Raymond Himel of Lafayette, Louisiana; sisters, Joann Owens of Broussard, Louisiana, Jeanette Stelly of Carencro, Louisiana, and Brenda Himel of Arnaudville, Louisiana; fifteen grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
