Jurden Byers

Graveside services for Jurden Byers, 82, of Chico, Texas, will be held at 10:30 am Friday, June 2, 2023, at Chico Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6-8 pm Thursday, June 1, at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Jeff Bakker will officiate. Jurden went to his eternal resting place on May 26, in Decatur, Texas.

Jurden was born July 13, 1940, in Chico, Texas, to Haskell Lee and Dortha “Kennedy” Byers. He married the love of his life, Linda Maddux, November 20, 1967, in Decatur, Texas, and was happily married for 49 years. Jurden loved the outdoors. When he retired from the rock quarry, in Chico, he devoted most of his time to fishing and feeding the birds. Jurden also enjoyed playing dominoes whenever given the chance. The only thing he enjoyed more than the outdoors and dominoes (besides his coffee) was watching the Dallas Cowboys and spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son Jurden Wayne Byers Jr. (J.W.) and wife Patty of Chico; daughter Ronda Mitchum and husband Lee of Chico; brothers George Byers of Chico, and David Byers of Euless; sister Jewel Mitchell of Euless; grandchildren Brandy Byers, Ashley Ginther and husband Jason, Amanda Camp and husband Joel, Haley Byers, Brittany Rider and husband Skyler, Courtney Byers, Chloe Byers, Maci Byers, and Abbi Byers; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

Jurden is preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter Denice Byers; brother Franklin Byers; grandson Nick Parsons; and great-grandson Chevy Byers.
