Judy Beth (Morehead) Dickey, 77 years, 11 months, 18 days went home to be with our Lord on January 25, 2022 at her home in Boyd, Texas. A visitation is planned from 11-1 Saturday, February 5 at the First United Methodist Church in Boyd. A memorial service will begin at 1:00 pm Saturday, also at the church, officiated by Pastor Ricky Harrison. Burial will follow in Cottondale Cemetery.
Judy was born on February 12, 1944 in Cottondale, Texas to Foy Roland and Connie Marie (Franks) Morehead. She spent her early years at the Cottondale Store where she learned to play a mean hand of dominoes from the old-timers who gathered there for coffee and daily gossip.
She later moved to Boyd where she graduated from BHS in 1962. Judy loved all sports and was a Varsity Cheerleader, Yellowjacket Mascot, and a member of the Girls Varsity Basketball State Team of 1961. She loved her Boyd Yellowjackets and was a long-time member of the Athletic Booster Club.
Judy married Allen Poe Dickey on October 24, 1964 in Boyd, Texas. Together they raised four children and had a hand in raising several grandchildren.
Judy was very active in Boyd, and was a true pillar in the community. She excelled in a variety of industries. Judy was an entrepreneur who advocated for female-owned businesses. She was a Past Worthy Matron of the Boyd Eastern Star Chapter 897 and served on the Wise County Child Welfare Board. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Judy had a lifelong passion for floral design and became a licensed floral designer through Tarrant County College in 1978. That same year she opened A and J Florist in Boyd. After many successful years, she sold her shop, then re-opened as Celebrations by Judy in 1991. She retired from the floral industry in 2015 to spend time with her husband and grandchildren. Judy also held lengthy employment in the funeral home and cosmetology fields. In her spare time, she very much enjoyed trips to WinStar with her best friend, Brenda Dalton.
She was a devoted wife, mother, and friend. Her husband lovingly referred to her as ‘Babe’ their entire married life.
