Services for Juanita Fern Shaffer, 73, of Decatur, Texas will be 11 am Thursday, October 3, 2019 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Decatur, officiated by Bishop T.M. Bigley. Visitation will be at 10 am Thursday, one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date at Rose Hills Cemetery, 3888 Workman Mill Road, Whittier, California, 90601. She passed away Monday, September 23 in Plano, Texas.
Juanita was born October 1, 1945 in Bell, California to Charley W. and Helen Janet (Grant) Redd.
Most of Juanita’s career was spent as an LVN, particularly as a cardiac care nurse in southern California. After moving to Texas in October of 1996 to be closer to family, she worked as an industrial nurse for Sara Lee Foods factory in Fort Worth, Texas.
She was the artistic type, and enjoyed tackling anything from baking, painting ceramics to sewing. She was also an avid shopper.
Juanita was an independent person who loved to travel at a moment’s notice. But most importantly, she loved being with her family.
She served in the genealogy department at her church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Decatur.
She is survived by daughter Janet Seymore and husband Randy of Bridgeport; son David Asher of Granbury, Texas; sister Charlene La Marsna and husband Norm of Fullerton, California; brother Gene Martin and wife Dorothy of Coalinga, California; grandchildren Kendra Taylor, Jennifer Stewart, and Bryan Seymore; and great-grandchildren Olivia Stewart, and Benjamin Taylor.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents.
