Joe Britton

Joe Britton, 74, of Alvord, beloved husband, father, Grandpa and Papaw went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 17, 2018.

Funeral service will be at 1:00pm on Saturday at the Community Church in Decatur. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery #3 in Alvord. Pastor Chris Wann will officiate. Visitation will be on Friday evening from 6-8pm at the Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

Joe was born on October 1,.1943 in Enid, Oklahoma to Floyd and Rena Belle (McGeehee) Britton. On February 23, 1963 Joe married the love of his life Louise Weyerts in Enid, Oklahoma. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company where he was a Marketing Manager. He was awarded for 30 years of perfect attendance.  He also served as a Deacon in his past at previous churches, and worked in the Maintenance Department for the Chico Independent School District. Joe was a member of Community Church in Decatur and served in Disaster Relief with the Southern Baptist Foundation.

He loved woodworking, fishing, playing cards and dominoes especially 42. He enjoyed making people laugh and serving the Lord and others as well. Joe was a huge OU fan and cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren and great -grandchildren and other family members.

Joe is survived by his loving wife Louise of 54 years; daughters Julie Maddux and husband Mike, Rhonda Thompson and husband Brian, and Jennifer Burkholder and husband Jeff; brothers John Britton and wife Mary Ann, Paul Britton and wife Barbara; sisters Iva Hodson and husband Bob, Loretta Krug and husband Gary, Glenna Williams and husband Duwayne and sister in law Arline Britton; grandchildren Meredith Highsmith and husband Aaron, Shane Maddux, Allison Maddux, Lindsey Richey and husband Sherrod, Valerie and Savannah Thompson, Mackenzie  and Carissa Burkholder, great-grandchildren Averie and Cambrie Richey, Eili and Emelia Highsmith.

Preceded in death by his parents, brothers Cecil and Loten Britton,  andsister in law Earlene Britton.

Memorials can be made to the Mission Fund at Community Church in Decatur.
