Jimmy D. Hicks

Funeral services for Jimmy Hicks, 79, of Paradise, Texas, will be held at 11 am on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at First Baptist Church Cottondale; visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at 3 pm in Midlothian Cemetery for immediate family only. Jimmy passed away peacefully on March 24, 2023, surrounded by his family.

Pallbearers include Hunter Hicks, Bryan Hicks, Leslie Hughes, Mike Henson, Heath Wilson, and Johnny Marinik.

Jimmy was born March 3, 1944, in Holland, Texas, to Raymond and Odell (Innman) Hicks. He graduated from Holland High School in 1962 and, shortly thereafter, married the love of his life, Sharlyn (Surovik) Hicks, on August 11, 1962; they were happily married for 60 years. The two moved to Dallas, Texas, where Jimmy started working at Fabricators, and then, later, at Restaurant Services, Inc. When he was not working or raising his kids, he could be found at the softball fields. His favorite pastimes included coaching, fishing, hunting, playing sports, traveling the United States, watching his kids and grandkids play, playing cards, and experiencing nature. Nothing made him happier, though, than a cold Big Red and a Zabcikville cheeseburger.

Jimmy loved God and sought to serve and honor him in many ways. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church Cottondale and will always be remembered for his love for the Lord.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sharlyn Hicks; son Jimmy Hicks Jr. and wife Irene; daughter Ronda Lee and husband Jake; grandchildren Stephanie Serda and husband Rick, Brittany Preece and husband Brendon, Taylor Crabtree and wife Skyler, Hunter Hicks and wife Christie, Haley Gravette and husband Jacob, and Meagan Bauer and husband Bobby; great-grandchildren Jaxson Hightower, Range Sutton, Kaleb and Nathan Serda, Axel Hicks, and Abigail Gravette.

Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents and daughter Tracy Hicks.
