Funeral services for Jimmy Begeman, 90, of Paradise, Texas, will be held at 11 am Thursday, October 12, 2023, at First Baptist Church Paradise, with burial to follow at Paradise Cemetery. Visitation will be held at 10 am, one hour prior to the service, at the church. Dr. Shawn Brewer will be officiating.
Pallbearers include his grandsons and great-grandsons Jeremy Begeman, Scott Horner, Daniel Robinson, Jayson Horner, Cayson Wilson, Bryson Black, Gavin Haddox, Grady Haddox, and Jayden Fuqua; honorary pallbearers include Mike Perrin, Jim Pewitt, John Thompson, Rob Crawford, Joe Gilliand, and Charles Mauldin. Jimmy, a beloved member of the Paradise community, passed away on October 7, 2023. He will be remembered as a devoted family man, a dedicated church member, and a respected community leader.
Jimmy was born on September 22, 1933, in Electra, Texas, to Fritz and Clara Ruth (Horn) Begeman. He retired as a lease operator for Mitchell Energy. Jimmy’s dedication and hard work throughout his professional life left a lasting mark on his colleagues and the industry. Beyond his successful career, he was actively involved in his community and served on the Wise County Olympathon Board of Directors for many years and received the esteemed 2010 Paradise Community Service Award for Outstanding Service and Leadership. Jimmy was also a valued member of First Baptist Church in Paradise where he enjoyed the fellowship with other members and took care of the church lawn for many years.
In Jimmy’s retirement, he spent much of his time watching westerns, painting on his iPad, mowing, and spending quality time with his cherished grandchildren. Jimmy's passing leaves an immense void in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years; Maurine (Dean) Begeman; son Barry Begeman and wife Brenda of Decatur; daughters Beverly Robinson of Decatur, Cristy Fuqua of Paradise, and Denise Horner of Nocona; sisters Amelia Ray of Snyder and Kay Shelley and husband Kenneth of Cleburne; grandchildren Kerri Black of Paradise, Jessica Alford and husband Ray of Aubrey, Kimberly Haddox and husband Jeff of Aledo, Scott Horner of Carrolton, Mariah Fuqua of Weatherford, Daniel Robinson of Decatur, Lynnsey Horner of Wichita Falls, Jayson Horner of Alvord, Julie Drevecky and husband Cary of Paradise, and Jeremy Begeman of Decatur; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents; sister Paula Rodgers and husband Alton; brother Troy Begeman and wife Carol; and brother-in-law Don Ray.
