He was born in Decatur September 6, 1944 to Alvis and OlaMae (Hanner) Dodd.

James is survived by son Chris Dodd and wife Lora of Forestburg, Texas; brother Pat Dodd and wife Carla of Moore, Oklahoma; grandchildren Nicole Butler, and Dustin Dodd; and great-granddaughter Lillith Butler.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife Bobette (Speed) Dodd.
