Guy Brown

William Guy Brown, Jr., longtime Bridgeport resident and newspaper distributor, passed away peacefully in his home in Fort Worth on June 4, 2013 at the age of 85. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 7 at 10 am in the chapel at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport, officiated by Jim Taylor. Guy's passing took place after a disappointing loss by his favorite MLB team, the Texas Rangers. Not to say that was the cause of death but you have to admit a 17 to 5 defeat of all teams by the Boston Red Sox does leave one feeling a bit off. Born April 3,1928 in Bridgeport, Texas, Guy was an avid fan of baseball and had been a true red & blue Ranger’s fan since their season debut in 1972. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1947 and claims that Japan surrendered the day his ship hit their waters. He then went on to continue his service in the newly formed U.S. Air Force from 1947 to 1957. Where he apparently spent several strenuous years on tropical islands with only his skivvies and a beer to keep him warm and sustained (verified through service photos). The Air Force then saw that the warm tropical beaches were too taxing on his delicate skin so they shipped him to Alaska where he promptly resigned and returned to his beloved home of Texas. Upon his return he began work for the natural gas plant and assisted his father with the farmland he owned. One tragic evening a military plane crashed on the farm and as the citizens of Bridgeport gathered to see the scene a young 20 yr old woman spotted Guy and staked her claim. After a 6 week whirlwind courtship he married Patsy Stickler on Aug. 28,1958 and they remained together for almost 48 years until Patsy passed in 2006. They raised two daughters, Rickanna Brown Lambert and Penny Brown, both of Fort Worth, Texas. Guy was preceded in death by his parents Frances and Guy Sr., his wife Patsy and his bother Richard. He is survived by his two daughters Rickanna and Penny; his grandson and his wife William & Marcie Wright of Bowie, Texas; three great-granddaughters Rachel, Taya and Shauna of Bowie; and two great-grandsons Zachary of Bowie and Jordan of Bridgeport.
