Glen Robert Sherman

Glen ‘Rummy’ Robert Sherman of Rhome, Texas passed away Saturday, February 13, 2021 in Denton, Texas at the age of 76. There will be a viewing at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home from 2-4 pm Sunday, February 21, followed by cremation.  There will also be a Celebration Party at Wild Child Cycles in Springtown when the weather warms up. Friends and Motorcycles are invited to attend.

Rummy was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada to Bob and Mary (Leitch) Sherman. He finished Tech School in 1957 and worked in the automotive industry for a few years and then moved to motorcycle shops. He found his calling and worked at the Motorcycle Factory in Toronto where he met his future wife Joyce ‘Juice’ Bergh in 1981. She decided to go home to Texas and brought him along in 1989. He worked at several shops in the area over the years:  Full Boar, Demented Cycle, and retired, at 75 years old, from Wild Child Cycles in Springtown when COVID arrived.

According to family, he was one of the top mechanics in Ontario, and could tell what kind of car it was and what was wrong with it just by listening to the engine. He was also one of the first Canadians to work on a Rolls Royce sealed engine.

When he worked for an Aston Martin dealer he got to work on the James Bond car. Rummy’s picture was in the newspaper, posing next to the car in his coveralls holding a machine gun.

He loved all forms of racing, anything with wheels and a motor. He and his wife attended Nascar races across the country. They had infield camping at Texas Motor speedway for 20 years and found many friends there. He and Joyce loved to ride long distances on his bike. They also liked to go to national parks and camp out.

Rummy loved life and had a great sense of humor. Way back in the day he dressed as Tina Turner for Halloween and was told what great legs he had.

He is survived by wife Joyce, daughter Sonya Sherman, brother Ricky Sherman, and sister Judy Brown and her husband Doug.

He will be missed by many.
