Gary Wayne Barnett was born on March 8, 1951, in Denton, Texas, to H.L. and Betty Ruth (Greer) Barnett. He passed away on September 26, 2026, in Decatur, Texas, leaving behind a life of service, faith, and devotion.

Gary graduated from L.D. Bell High School in Hurst, Texas, in 1969 and married Debra Dianne Connel on February 25, 1972. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, earning a National Service Medal before his honorable discharge in 1976, and later continued his service in the Navy Reserves. Throughout his working years, Gary served as an FAA air traffic controller, devoted 25 years to building custom homes across Wise and Parker Counties and was currently working at Titan Roofing services in Paradise, Texas. His deep faith led him to earn a degree in Biblical studies from Norris Bible Baptist Institute, graduating Magna Cum Laude and was ordained in 1990. He established Bend Baptist Church in Bend Oregon as a home missionary. Gary was a devoted member and trustee of Bible Baptist Church in Bridgeport and faithfully served the church community he cherished.

Gary was welcomed home by those who preceded him in death: his beloved parents, H.L. and Betty Ruth Barnett, his sister, Betty Cheryl Barnett and a host of long-time friends.

Gary’s memory will be lovingly carried on by his devoted wife, Debra Barnett; his son, Brad Barnett and wife Misty; his daughters, Jennifer Cobb and husband Coby, and Rebecca Bell and husband Doug; his cherished grandchildren, Hannah Reaves and husband Brock, Andrew Horton, Blake Horton and wife Allison, Addison Cobb, Gracie Harris and husband Corbin, Brady Barnett, Britton Barnett, Carter Barnett, Nola Bell, Molly Bell, and Hudson Bell; and his treasured great-grandchildren, Kace Reaves, Asher Reaves, Lane Reaves, Connor Reaves, Harper Harris, Charlotte Harris, and soon-expected Thomas Horton.
