Donald Maddux

Funeral services for Donald Eugene Maddux, 84, of Chico, Texas, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport, with burial to follow at Chico Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday, July 5, 2024, at the funeral home. Pastor Ronnie Lawson will officiate.

Pallbearers will include Aaron Highsmith, Shane Maddux, Terry Hand, Rusty Ford, Jay Coker, and Joseph Sheddy.

Donald was born September 1, 1939, in Chico, Texas, to Tapley Jodie (TJ) and Flossie Arrila (Harris) Maddux and went to be with our Lord and Savior June 30, 2024, in Argyle, Texas, after his battle with lung cancer.

Donald was raised in Chico on the family farm and graduated from Chico High School in 1958. He worked a number of jobs as a young man from driving a truck to working as a mechanic. In 1968, he married Phyllis Jean Cook and moved to Van Horn for several years. They returned to Chico in the early 1970’s and he worked various jobs at Gifford-Hill, retiring from Gifford-Hill in 2002. He farmed and raised cattle and helped Phyllis with her retail business. Donald and Phyllis owned and operated Expressions, in Bridgeport, for many years. In 2015, they retired, sold the family farm, and became full-time RVers and spent several years traveling in their motor home visiting many states, making friends, and enjoying retirement.

Those left to cherish Donald’s memory are his son, Mike Maddux and wife Julie of Chico, Texas; daughter Cindy Sheddy and husband Chad of Argyle, Texas; grandchildren Meredith Highsmith and husband Aaron of Amarillo, Texas, Shane Maddux and wife Hannah of Weatherford, Texas, Allison Maddux of Aurora, Colorado, Jacob Sheddy of Denton, Texas, and Joseph Sheddy of Denton, Texas; great-grandchildren, Eli, Emelia, and Callum Highsmith; sister-in-law Patsy Ford of Decatur, Texas; cousins D.L. Harris of Alvord, Texas, and Mary Smith of Euless, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents TJ and Arrila Maddux and wife Phyllis Maddux.
