Della “Johnnie” Smith, 92, of Bridgeport, Texas, passed November 20, 2022, in Decatur, Texas. Funeral services will be held 10am Wednesday, November 23, at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport, Texas, with Pastor Lenda Tedder to officiate, burial will follow at Robert Branch Cemetery north of Jacksboro, Texas. Visitation will be 6pm-8pm Tuesday, November 22, at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport, Texas.
Johnnie was born January 5, 1930, in Artesia, New Mexico. She moved to Jack County at a very young age, and then to Bridgeport, Texas, in 1964. Johnnie was born to Earl Brisco and Marie Baker Brisco.
She worked countless jobs, from slinging hash, working in a grocery store, bookkeeping, to driving a school bus. Johnnie retired after 15 years, from Bridgeport Independent School District, as a school bus driver. She was a longtime member of the East Mound Church of Christ, Ladies Auxiliary post 8914, the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Home for Children, and the D.A.V. Auxiliary.
Johnnie married Jasper Smith, in Jack County, on December 21, 1946. They were married 55 years, 10 months, and 17 days.
Pallbearers include Sandy Shawn, Doug Smith, Jason Smith, Patrick Hillary, and Doug Jones. Honorary pallbearers include Henry Kaker, Jason Alvy, Ben Doizer, and Zachary Jones.
Survivors include son, Ronnie Smith and wife, Lindsey of Bridgeport, Texas; daughter Connie Shawn and husband, Jerry of Boyd, Texas; grandchildren, Doug and wife, Lisa Smith of Fort Worth, Ronna Harris and husband, Doug of Arkansas, Robert Smith and wife, Monica of Bridgeport, Texas, Sindy Pebbles and husband, Dale of Boyd, Texas, and Sandy Shawn of Boyd, Texas, Tracy Melendrez, Jason Smith and wife, Sherry of Decatur, Texas, Kayla Jones and husband, Doug of Decatur, Texas, Misty Hillary and husband, Patrick of Argyle, Texas, Jeanie Foltz and husband, Josh of Bridgeport, Texas; daughter-in-law Kay “Smith” Ramos and husband, Mario ( who tried to keep her in-line, but couldn’t); dear friends, Frances O’Brian and Wanda Brown; twenty-four greatgrandchildren; ten nephews and nieces; and a host of friends and family.
