Darwin J. Smith was born on December 29, 1934, in Olney, Texas, to Ernest and Virginia (Terrell) Smith, and peacefully passed away on January 12, 2026, in Bridgeport, Texas.
Darwin lived a fulfilling life and will be remembered for his dedication to both his career and his country. He spent 30 years working at Boyd Industries Inc., where his contributions were valued by his colleagues. He retired after a long career, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and commitment.
Darwin’s service in the Army is a testament to his character and devotion. His time in the military shaped him into the person many came to respect and admire.
Darwin's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and he will be missed dearly.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 20 years, Janelle Cooper; his life partner and mother of his children, Karen Jackson; parents, Ernest and Virgina Smith; and brothers, Kenneth “Red” Smith and Jimmy Wayne Smith.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Michael J. Smith and James Ernest Smith; sister, Frances Garrison; grandchildren, Ben Smith of Fort Worth, Texas, Zachary Smith of Whitney, Texas, and Mary Smith of Whitney, Texas; five great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.
