Cilfredo Q. Garces

Cilfredo Q. ‘Sonny’ Garces, Sr. of Paradise passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2017 in Decatur at the age of 78. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday, August 26 at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport, officiated by Bishop Fred Villa and Pastor Spain Trask. Burial will follow in East Bridgeport Cemetery. Pallbearers are Austin Culwell, J.B. Culwell, John Clifton, Josh Vidal, Pete Salazar, Bruno Acosta, Felipe Moncibaiz, and Ed Martinez. Honorary pallbearers are Shelton Garces and Cliff-Ryan Garces. Visitation will be Friday, August 25 from 6-8 pm, also at Jones in Bridgeport.

Sonny was born September 15, 1938 in Beeville, Texas to Eliceo and Evarista (Quintanilla) Garces. For many years he drove a truck for Bridgeport’s Acme Brick Company. It was in Bridgeport that he met and married Mary Sue Casillas. The couple were married for 44 years, until her death in 2014.

His hobbies included farming, spending time with family and friends, and traveling.

He is survived by daughters JoAnn Salazar and husband Wally of Bridgeport, Texas, Olga Evans and husband Joel of Mexia, Texas, Gloria Ramirez of El Paso, Texas, Norma Stith and husband Ted of North Dakota, Julie Torres of Bridgeport, and Sally Salazar of Mexico; sons Cliff Garces and wife Tracie of Paradise, Texas, Tommy Salazar of Greenwood, Texas, and Johnny Salazar, Sr. of Bridgeport.; brother Gilbert Garces of Eastland, Texas; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and other family.

Cilfredo was preceded in death by his parents; wife Mary Garces; daughters Eva Ann Garces, Gloria Martinez, and Emily Vidal; grandsons Andy Martinez, and John Salazar, Jr.; great-grandson Michael Wyatt Hernandez; brothers Pedro, Santos, Amado, and Eliceo, Jr.; and sisters Petra, Genoveva, Dominga, Juanita, and Julia.
