A Celebration of Life for Carlos Elder Mann, 93, of Bridgeport, Texas, will be held at 2 PM Saturday, September 23, 2023, at the First Methodist Church Bridgeport, officiated by Pastor Rick Davis.  Visitation will also be held at the church, beginning one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow at Eastside Cemetery in Bridgeport, with William Mann, Gary Mann, Charlie Mann, Jimmy Mann, Tommy Mann, and Mark Mann serving as pallbearers; Terry Mann and Ronnie Mann will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Born September 7, 1930, in Decatur, Texas, to W.J. and Ovella Mann, Carlos graduated from Bridgeport High, played football two years for Henderson Junior College in Athens, Texas, and two more years at Texas A&M before being drafted by the U.S. Army.  Proudly serving his country during the Korean war, Carlos would later become a recipient of the Purple Heart award.

Following his time in the service, Carlos claimed Bridgeport as his place of residence where he worked as a general contractor in residential and commercial construction in Wise and surrounding counties, building a major part of Bridgeport. He was also a partner in Wise Ready Mix Concrete. Carlos was a 32nd degree Master Mason and proudly passed his ring and fez to his first grandson, Pace Copeland, when Pace received his 32nd degree. He was a lifelong member of the First Methodist Church and was actively involved in his community, where he served as one of the original charter board members of the Bridgeport Country Club, and played a major role in construction of the course and club. Time permitting, he also enjoyed rodeoing, golfing, and farming. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his girls and family, something which earned him the title of, "Best Papa Ever."

Those left behind to cherish Carlos' memory are his wife of 40 years, Shirley Anne Mann; daughters Susan Hester, Sherry Phillips and husband CD, and Sandi George and husband Mike; sons Jim Jobe and wife Jackie, and Johnny Jobe and wife Debbie; sister Ann Nimmo; 17 grandchildren, a wealth of great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren -- all of whom he regarded as a total blessing.

Carlos was preceded in death by his parents, W.J. and Ovella Mann; brother Jack Mann; and son Kelly Jobe.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either the Shriners Children's Hospital by calling (844) 739-0849, or the Scottish Rite Children's Hospital at (214) 559-8374.
