Graveside services for Butch Lawson, 78, of Runaway Bay, Texas, will be held at 11 am Thursday, August 24, 2023, at Bethel Cemetery in Decatur, with military honors. A viewing will be held from 10-10:30 am, at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport, prior to the service.

Pallbearers will include Scott Cantrell, Ernie Cantrell, Ti Rainwater, Matt Reed, Senior Airman Chandler Hughes, Garrett Darden, Jeff Silletti, Clay Cronk, and Brian Short.

Butch Lawson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on August 10, 2023. He was born on July 12, 1945, to Willard Lawson and Margaret Bish, and lovingly raised by his grandmother, Ruth Bish.
Butch dedicated many years of his life to the service of his country. He served in the United States Air Force for 20 years and retired as a Master Sergeant on June 1, 1983. His commitment to duty was unwavering, and he demonstrated his exceptional leadership skills throughout his military career. Butch's service in the Air Force symbolized his strong sense of duty and his willingness to sacrifice for the well-being of others.
After retiring from the military, Butch continued serving his community by working at Wackenhut Correctional Facility. For many years, he played a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of both staff members and inmates. His dedication to maintaining law and order was evident in every aspect of his work.
Later in his career, Butch transitioned to the Denton County Sheriff's Office where he continued to serve with diligence until retirement.
Butch Lawson will be remembered as a man of integrity, loyalty, and honor. His selfless dedication to his country and community serves as an inspiration to us all. As we mourn his passing, let us also celebrate the life he lived and the impact he made. Butch's legacy will forever shine bright in our hearts and his memory will be cherished for generations to come.

He is survived by his daughters Janet McLain, Diahanna Short and husband Brian; Connie Cantrell and husband Scott, Rhonda Gilliland, and Christa Womack; grandchildren Jessica Reese, Julie Harrison, Tyler McLain, Ashley McLain, Courtney Rainwater and husband Ti, Ernie Cantrell and wife Lottie, Samatha Reed and husband Matt, and Skylor Womack; great-grandchildren Senior Airman Chandler Hughes and wife Mercedes, Garrett and Ella Darden, Emma, Adyson, and Raylee Cantrell, Owen Green, Lucas and Porter Reed, and Hudson Rainwater; great-great-grandchildren Dorian and Levi Hughes; niece Jill Cascaden and husband Chris, and children Mackenzie, Katelynn, and Alexa of Jenera, Ohio; and a host of family and friends.

Butch is preceded in death by his loving wife of 26 years, Alice Lawson; son David T. Lawson; grandmother Ruth Bish; and sister Bonnie Schroen.
