Memorial services for Billy Fred Walker, 88, of Bridgeport, Texas, are scheduled to take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at First Methodist Church in Bridgeport. Visitation will be held from 6–8 p.m. on Friday, February 27, at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport.
Billy Fred Walker passed from this earth on February 21, 2026, surrounded by his family. He leaves a legacy of love, kindness, and gentleness that will be sorely missed. Billy Fred had a remarkable ability to connect with people, never meeting a stranger. Those who had the pleasure of knowing him quickly learned just how warm and caring he was. His humble nature resonated deeply with everyone he encountered.
Billy Fred Walker, born on January 19, 1938, was the loving son of Robert “Doc” and Doris “Mutt” Walker. His birth was marked by a unique circumstance, as he entered this world in a car somewhere between Boonesville and Jacksboro. He married Sandra (Morris) Walker in 1963, and they remained happily married for 63 years until his passing.
Billy Fred served his country for four years as a General Aviation Electronics Technician in the US Navy. After the Navy, he worked for the US Postal Service until his retirement in 1997. In his spare time and after retirement, he loved to rope, trade horses, and most of all he loved to just sit and visit. He and Sandra loved to travel to many destinations across the country where the journey was more important than the destination.
To Billy Fred, roping was much more than just a pastime; it was his passion and a meaningful way to connect with others. He devoted significant time to teaching roping, using it as a ministry to reach both youth and adults. His students not only gained skills in roping, but also learned the importance of kindness, integrity, and treating others with the same compassion Jesus taught. Through his actions and instruction, Billy Fred served as a living testament to Christ’s love.
One of Billy Fred’s most cherished ministries was Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch in Amarillo, Texas. He spent many summers there, sharing his expertise in roping while imparting valuable life lessons to the boys. His dedication to teaching and mentoring left a positive and lasting impact on countless lives.
Billy Fred was a member of the First Methodist Church of Bridgeport and served on the Bridgeport City Council from 1993 until 2021. In 2023, he was awarded the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award.
Billy Fred is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Glenda St. John and LaDarla Keith; brother-in-law, Clarence “Sonny” Keith; and niece, Karen Judd.
Those left to cherish Billy Fred’s memory are his wife, Sandra Walker; two sons, Harold “Bo” Walker of Bridgeport and Clay Walker and wife Deneise of Bridgeport; and sister-in-law, Susie Stauss and husband Karl from Farmers Branch. Billy Fred had three granddaughters: Maegan DuBose and husband Chris of Haslet, Kaetlyn Raub and husband Lance of Decatur, and Ashley Bush and husband Matt of Alvord. He also has four great-grandchildren: Taylor, Zeke, Deklyn, and Logan Bush all of Alvord. Billy Fred also leaves behind an extended family and a host of friends.
