Graveside Services for Betty Jean Rutledge, 94, of Paradise, Texas, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens in San Angelo, Texas. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, December 14, 2025, at Grace Fellowship Church in Paradise.

Pallbearers will include Jeremy Rutledge, Josh Rutledge, Chris Hurst, Barrett Hurst, Ben Rutledge, Brock Hurst, and Jack Rutledge.

Betty Jean (Henson) Rutledge, born on July 17, 1931, in Springhill Louisiana, to Ed and Tempie (Morgan) Henson, left us on December 9, 2025, to be with the Lord, at the age of 94. Betty was known for her dedicated service as a secretary to the principal at John Glenn Junior High School and as a telephone operator. Her work was marked by a friendly demeanor and a willingness to help others.

Betty received her education at Springhill High School, which laid the foundation for her career and her love of learning. Beyond her professional life, she was a woman of many hobbies and interests. Betty had a passion for crafts, enjoyed sewing, and found great joy in gardening. An avid reader, she cherished time spent lost in a good book. Above all, Betty loved her family deeply and was always there for them.

Betty was a valued member of Grace Fellowship Church, where she found community and connection. She will be remembered fondly for her warm spirit and the joy she brought into the lives of those around her. Her legacy of kindness and dedication will live on in the hearts of many.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, H.V. Rutledge of San Angelo, Texas; parents, Ed and Tempie Henson of Springhill, Louisiana; brother, Wayne Henson and wife Joyce of Bivins, Texas; sisters, Eddie Mae Jester and husband R.L. of Springhill, Louisiana, and Evelyn Simmons and husband Bob of Cotton Valley, Louisiana; brothers-in-law, Reed M. Smith of Atlanta, Texas, Clyde Rutledge of Yoakum, Texas, and Marion Willmann of Gonzales, Texas; and sisters-in-law, Dorinda Henson of Cotton Valley, Louisiana, Virgie Rutledge of Yoakum, Texas, and Mary Bowers of Fort Madison, Iowa; father-in-law, O.A. Rutledge and wife Ura of Gonzales, Texas.

Those left to cherish Betty’s memory are her son, BJ Rutledge and wife Janet of Paradise, Texas; brothers, Harry Henson of Cotton Valley, Louisiana, and Ben Henson and wife Mona of Phoenix, Arizona; sister, Sue Smith of Atlanta, Texas; sister-in-law, Lois Willmann of Gonzales, Texas; grandchildren, Jeremy Rutledge and wife Whitney of Decatur, Texas, Julie Hurst and husband Chris of Paradise, Texas, and Josh Rutledge and wife Hannah of Paradise, Texas; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
