Barbee Howell

Services for Barbee Joe Howell, 71, of Bridgeport, Texas will be 2:00 pm Thursday, December 23, 2021 at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport, officiated by Pastor Robert Cox. Burial will follow in Bridgeport’s Eastside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-6 pm Wednesday, December 22, also at the funeral home. Barbee passed away Monday, December 20 in Bridgeport.

She was born February 4, 1950 in Baird, Texas to Luther and Bobby (Basket) Jernigan.

She was an LVN and worked at mental health facilities and later at various nursing homes.

An avid churchgoer, Barbee loved the Lord. She also loved camping and fishing, and on sleepless nights she could sometimes be found frequenting the casinos.

The eternal trusting soul, Barbee never met a stranger and would give the shirt off her back to anyone in need.

Barbee loved to sing and perform and would use any audience available.

Barbee is survived by husband Alton Howell of Bridgeport; daughter Melissa Monk and husband Richard of Bridgeport; sons Danny Chapman and wife Katie of Springtown, Texas, Larry Howell of Cleburne, Texas; siblings Larry Jernigan of Cisco, Texas, David Jernigan of Brownwood, Texas, Petty Harris of Early, Texas, and Bryant Jernigan of Eastland, Texas, grandchildren Isaac, Sarah, Camri, Hannah, Danny Ray, Jr., twins Ashanti and Armonie, Mariah, Timothy, Landon, Annabelle, Rose, and Paisley; and great-grandchildren Jesiah, Doddi and Penelope.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister Angela Sue.
